Polycystic ovarian syndrome, also known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome, is among the most common endocrine (hormone) problems women face. In fact, according to the Office on Women’s Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the condition affects as many as five million girls and women, and can impact their health for life. Yet very few people know much about it.

What Is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, is a health condition that’s caused by an imbalance in a woman’s hormone system. It can affect her appearance, menstrual cycle, and fertility, as well as her cardiac health. It’s also associated with diabetes and other conditions.

Urinary Tract(diabeties)

Having diabetes is associated with greater numbers of urinary tract infections, especially in patients who don’t have good control over their blood sugar [glucose] levels.

Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections, or UTIs, are caused by bacteria in the urinary tract. They can occur in the urethra (this infection is known as urethritis), the bladder (cystitis), or the kidneys (pyeloenphritis). In people without diabetes, the immune system normally takes care of these infections, which clear up on their own. However, UTIs and, in particular, acute pyelonphritis, is common in diabetes patients.
These UTIs may be due to diabetes-related nerve damage or an impaired immune system response. They may also be caused by glucose in the urine, which provides a good environment for bacteria to grow.
The symptoms of UTIs are not subtle and include:
·                                 Pain or discomfort while urinating
·                                 Persistent urge to urinate
·                                 Pain in the abdomen or back
·                                 Fever

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PREDIABETES...

0 comments Posted by Unknown at 1:48 am
If you are middle age, inactive, and overweight you may have prediabetes, meaning your blood glucose (sugar) levels are higher than normal. Since they haven’t yet reached the levels required for an official diabetes diagnosis and a need for insulin (the hormone required for the metabolism of foods and the regulation of blood sugar levels)—there’s still time to reverse your course down a dangerous and potentially deadly road to poor health.

All About Prediabetes
Prediabetes is a common condition: According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in 2010, an estimated one out of three adults (and one out of two of those 65 and older) had prediabetes. Worse, most people with prediabetes are not even aware they have it. Without intervention, many of these people will go on to develop type 2 diabetes.

men's sex life

Your love life shouldn't have an expiration date. If you find your interest in sex waning as you get older, you may need to explore some more creative ways to engage with your mate.

Why Your Sex Drive Wanes With Age

There's no doubt about it: As time passes, your desire for sex, and your physical responses, may change. "As our bodies age, our sex drive hormones decrease, the blood flow to the genitals is slower, we may be experiencing aches and pains, and various medications may interfere with sexual arousal and orgasm," says ageless sexuality advocate Joan Price, MA, who is the author of Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex and Better Than I Ever Expected:

Men's Guide To Eating Well......

0 comments Posted by Unknown at 6:08 pm

As men age, their diets can have a significant impact on their health and well-being. And while the foods they choose
don’t have to be all that different from the foods women eat, men do have some specific nutritional needs. By following these guidelines from Katherine Zeratsky, a registered dietician with the Mayo Clinic, men can get the most out of every bite they eat:
1. Go Easy on the Red Meat. Men may want to cut down on meat for several reasons. First of all, meat can be high in iron. Men don’t need as much iron as women and children, "Yet for a majority of men, a meal is not complete unless it has a piece of meat," notes Zeratsky, who advises men to become more aware of how much iron their diets contain. If they are already getting enough in their meals, men should avoid taking multivitamins with additional iron, since too much of a good thing for males can actually be damaging.

maintaining healthy glucose

Maintaining healthy blood glucose (sugar) levels is the cornerstone of diabetes management. However, data increasingly shows that for diabetes patients 65 and older, aiming for very low daily blood sugars or A1C (average blood glucose over several months) levels may not provide benefits, and may even cause harm.
As the authors of a JAMA Internal Medicine study put it, "Older persons, particularly those with complex medical problems, may derive less benefit from intensive strategies to lower glucose levels and are more susceptible to hypoglycemia [low blood sugar] and its consequences than younger, healthier persons."

NUTRITION

Nutrition is a branch of biochemistry that is concerned with the components of food and the processes they undergo to supply the body with energy and nourishment. Food can be biochemically defined as any plant or animal, or a product of plan or animal, or any combination of two, either in solid or liquid form.
